I’m missing the final CG for each guy, but I got their good endings so it counts as clearing on my part. Choices were rather straighforward, as you just have to side with or see the guy you’re aiming for at every chance. It’s set in a school with an astronomy focus, and I guess Spring has the theme of childhood friends, because all 3 guys were osananajimi. Only those 3 guys have portraits, and there are no other important characters. The heroine is the only girl at school, so she has no friends other than said childhood friends in this game.
Anyways, the game begins off with the heroine and her two childhood friends Kanata and Suzuya. A boy she befriended when she was little suddenly transfers to her class. That boy is Yoh, a half French and half Japanese boy who got bullied in the past and only had the protagonist as his friend. He transferred there to meet her again.
I thought the game felt kinda bland, because there were really only 3 important characters. The story is also the same on all routes, except for the guy you fall in love with. The conflict and solutions are all the same, the only thing different is having more talking scenes with a particular guy when you choose a choice, and the confessions are different. Kanata and Yoh will still fight and make up the same way no matter what, and Suzuya and Kanat also fight and make up the same way. No matter who you go for, Yoh will end up confessing to you anyways. There’s a whole lot of repeated scenes, and the whole story is about friends getting into fights. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but I’m more of a fan of fantasy otome games so slice of life games aren’t my thing unless they have a lot of interesting characters (or gameplay). Starry Sky most likely does, but they’re just all spread throughout 4 games, which basically ruins the point of a huge loveable cast and their interactions.
The interactions between the 3 guys and the heroine are pretty lol, and you can definitely feel their friendship. The art is good, considering that it’s one of the things that Starry Sky is praised for. The most romantic route would be Yoh’s route, whereas the most lol is Kanata (as if you couldn’t see already). At the end, I’ll recommend Starry Sky in Spring if you A) Like childhood friends, B) Like slice of life stories C) Need a break after something epic or D) Is a fan of them famous seiyuu (I don’t really follow seiyuu or anything because I’m not interested in 3D). The art is good to look at, but there’s only 7 CGs for each guy so don’t expect too much. There’s isn’t even a kiss CG, because the kiss scenes just show a closeup of the guy.
Character preference: Kanata > Yoh > Suzuya
Route preference: Yoh > Kanata > Suzuya
It’s a good thing otome games are getting translated. I’m actually pretty excited for Summer since it involves a club, and Winter since it’s about student council. I’m indifferent towards childhood friends.
