Conception – the girls

I said I would be done with this game in my last post, but for some reason I came back to get all endings. I might just be tsundere for this game. The fact that I did nothing in the dungeons (aside from final boss fights) and basically slept through weeks just to clear miko events probably helped. I also realized that you don’t need to defeat all the 12 horoscope bosses to beat the game, you can just beat one from each season, unlock the final dungeon, and beat the game. Well, I technically realized this long ago, but I thought beating all the bosses would grant me something worthwhile. It didn’t.

There are 14 endings in total: one for each of the 12 mikos, a normal end, and a harem end. The harem end is only available after you see all of the miko ends. Took me 85 hours in total, but if I didn’t go after all the bosses it would probably take around 20-30 hours less. I was foolish enough to try and complete some of the quests, but considering that a bunch of them require you to bring back multiples of rare equipment that randomly appear in chests, they are pretty pointless. By the time I managed to acquire the stuff, the reward from the quest was useless because I found something better on later dungeon floors. I’m at something like 67% achievement, and I won’t be going back for 100%. Some achievements are of the “collect all weapons” sort, and for each weapon there’s like 3 versions and there’s a lot of weapons to begin with. Let’s say, in the sword category, you have normal sword, great sword, and a bunch of other swords. That’s not too bad, except you’ll also have normal sword+, great sword+, normal sword remodelled, great sword remodelled, etc.

Ok yeah, I’ll shut up with my ranting. In this post I’ll summarize each girl’s scenario. Warning: Bad quality cellphone photos.

Conception – final thoughts

I got the normal end and the endings for 6 of the 12 girls, and I want to move on to something else. I’ve played this game for 75 hours, and I definitely need a break. Usually I’d spend 75 hours or more on games I really like, such as Luminous Arc 3 or Persona 3 or Tales of Graces. I’m surprised I stuck with a mediocre at best game for 75 hours, although I was motivated by cute girls for around 40 of those 75 hours. Now that I got the endings for most of the girls I’m interested in, I think it’s time to put this game down. If it wasn’t such a drag and I didn’t have to re-fight the final boss every single time, I might have gone for an all-clear. Even if I like the girls, there are much more fun games waiting out there to be played by me this summer.

Conception – normal end GET

Since I always have this intense anxiety when I’m literally right outside of the final boss room, but haven’t fought the final boss yet, I decided to just go and beat it to get the normal end (and to gauge the boss’ difficulty). Since the final boss was a piece of cake provided you have 1000 KP (which isn’t too hard to get), I’ll attempt to get the endings of all the other mikos now. The good thing about New Game+ is that you can choose between starting from the very beginning, or proceed to the next week with your rewards for fighting the final boss, and then pretending the boss fight never happened and all you did was go for a stroll inside the dungeons.

Anyways, I didn’t get anyone’s affection high enough for their ending, so I got the Normal End. Well, rather than a Normal forever alone end, it’s more like the “pity” end where the writers threw in a new girl because they don’t want the MC to be solo.

Conception – Second Impression

What I wish the protagonist would always do in dungeons.

Usually, I go by the “don’t dismiss a game as bad until you’re ___ hours in” line of thought. While most great games should capture you from the start, there are some that have a slow and rocky start before getting to the juice and meat. This time, I’ve learnt that the opposite holds too true as well. Conception taught me that I shouldn’t claim a game is good so early on. Well, to be honest, Conception was good for the first 20-30 hours that I played, and in my first impressions post I found the game to be fun and challenging. However, after beating that second boss that utterly creamed me the first time around, the game went downhill. Or more like, the mechanics were doomed to fail but I didn’t realize it until 20+ hours of gameplay.

Conception: First Impressions

For the lack of a better image

Yes, I realize that no matter what kind of topic I write about this game, it will sound awkward in the title. At least I’m not making Let’s Play posts (which I might be doing for some games I play in the summer, inspired by a blog full of R-18 drawings. Don’t ask.), or else it will be “Let’s Play – Conception” and get me a bunch of strange looks from passer-by anons.
