…And to Sum Up 2011

It was a fun year, actually. I played quite a few games that were enjoyable, and finally managed to play eroge in Japanese. I also got a sexy new PS3, opening up my library to even more games. Dad got me a 3DS as a surprise gift, so I’ll be looking in the horizon for games for that. I’m pretty much broke now, and my trip to the US increased my backlog. What a great way to prepare for new handhelds, me. I guess the Vita can wait. I don’t really give a shit about processing power or online features or touch panel or whatever they stick in there, I just want to follow Atlus, NIS and Falcom and play their games.

General games I beat:

Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki (trilogy)
Disgaea 4
Disgaea 3
Pokemon Black
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Radiant Historia
Atelier Rorona
Atelier Totori (gonna do another playthrough)
Ys: The Oath in Felghana
Ys Seven (review pending)
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Fate/Extra (review pending)
Wild Arms 4
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure

Eroge/galge I played:

G-Senjou no Maou
MuvLuv
MuvLuv Alternative
MuvLuv Altered Fable
Kimi Ga Ita Kisetsu
Rewrite
Little Busters!
Memories Off 2nd

Stuff I started in 2011 but didn’t beat yet:

Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki – god I am so slow when it comes to PC games. I’m much more suited for the PSP. Zero is slow-moving like Sora no Kiseki FC, but I’m enjoying it. Seeing the numerous references to previous games makes me jump with joy, and Zero’s original cast have their own charms. Tio won me over completely =)

Hyperdimension Neptunia – delicious girls are delicious. I love the character designs, although the 3D character models need work. Friend got this for me as super-early birthday present, and despite the bad reviews and numerous problems with the system, I’m enjoying myself. The script is hilarious.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D – first 3DS game! Not too far into it since I’m distracted by other games, but it’s fun and enjoyable so far. I haven’t played the original so I can’t compare.

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim – the PSP version, not published by XSeed. I don’t find it to be as fun as Oath and Seven yet, and the slowdowns are more annoying than the loading times. I think I like Seven’s system the best.

Lunar: Dragon Song – got this game for $2, and it actually lives up to its bad reviews. Battle system is terribad, and all the other elements add up to make this game painful to play. I’m not even sure if I’ll ever finish this games.

Not a bad year. Definitely had fun, and no regrets on buying a PS3. Got introduced to Sora no Kiseki, became fan instantly. I had loads of fun with Ys. Disgaea games are fun as usual, but I like them better on handhelds because I can whip it out and grind bit by bit anywhere. On the visual novel side, I cried buckets at G-Senjou and Little Busters. Reading MuvLuv Alternative is an experience I’ll never forget, and once I’m old and have permanent nostalgia goggles, I will always think back it it. Rewrite was interesting enough, and Akane-senpai won my heart so I’ll definitely remember it.

I’m hoping that 2012 will be fun as well. Hopefully Ao no Kiseki gets a Chinese PC edition this year (even though I’m much more suited to handhelds). NISA is releasing Atelier Meruru for the PS3 in English, and there’s Devil Survior 2 and Tales of the Abyss for the 3DS. Bamco is also giving us Tales of Graces F for English. I’ve also got an endless backlog to tackle, I blame the Christmas sales and the middle-aged women around me who can’t help but shop like crazy during December.

  1. Ys 6 definitely have significant problems in loading since it was released early in PSP age, if it is possible get PC version instead with Gamepad. Ys 6 is quite interesting since it explores more background settings of Ys series as whole.

    • A gamepad would definitely solve most of my gripes about playing games on PC.

I’ve also heard the PS2 version is better than the PSP version, but not sure by how much. The PSP port feels really clunky, if I had to describe it.

      • The PS2 version uses 3D graphics compared to the PC and PSP ones and the game also includes the Trials of Alma which is only available in the PS2 version. The game also used a CG opening.

Konami kinda screwed up the PSP version but it’s still do-able. Go for the PC and PS2 ones so you can have the same experience as Felghana.
