During the episodes I didn’t blog, the only important thing that happened was that Kaito vs. Astral duel ended in a draw, and Yuuma gets some Saint Seiya armour when he merges with Astra and transforms. The gold spikes make his hair look so spiky it’s normal.
I’m back to blogging Zexal now that the World Duel Carnival is finally starting. Last episode they changed the OP and ED too. The OP includes more villains and recent characters whereas the ED is kinda shoujo-y and focuses on Kotori. Anyways, each participant of the WDC gets a heart piece and they have to collect 5 pieces to move on to the next stage. Obviously, you get more pieces by dueling other people, and you cannot refuse to duel when someone challenges you.
Yuuma gets challenged by a boy who looks like he’s straight out of a shounen soccer anime and chooses his opponents by kicking his ball made out of cards at them. How did he manage to get all those cards into a ball shape and make them stay together? The boy’s name is Kakeru, and it seems like he’s supposed to be famous.
Yuuma takes the first turn. He places Gogogo Golem in face down defense position and TURN END.
Kakeru’s turn. He activates the field spell Dream Pitch which turns the entire place into a soccer staduim and Yuuma’s clothes turn into a red soccer outfit. Kotori’s clothes turn into a cheerleader outfit and Kathy and class prez become announcers. Dream Pitch also flips face down monsters to face up. He then summons Captain Wing and activates the spell card Killer Pass. Killer Pass doubles a monster’s ATK when it attacks a monster with higher DEF. Since Gogogo Golem has 1500 DEF, Captain Wing’s ATK increases to 2200. Killer Pass also negates the effect of the opponent’s mosnter, so Gogogo Golem can’t negate destruction. Captain Wing also inflicts 700 damage to the opponent when it destroys one of his monsters, so Yuuma’s LP drop to 3300. He places a card face down and TURN END.
Yuuma’s turn. He summons Gagaga Magician and attacks Captain Wing. The attack goes through, but Kakeru activates the trap card Offside Trap, which re-summons the monster, negates battle damage and ends the turn if there are no other trap or spell cards (minus field spell). TURN END.
Kakeru’s turn. He summons Striker Top, which can be summoned without releasing if the field spell Dream Pitch is in effect. He attacks Gagaga Magician with Striker Top and Yuuma’s LP drop to 2800. Finally, he directly attacks Yuuma using Captain Wing and drops his LP to 1700. He then activates the spell card Eye Contact, which returns Offside Trap to his hand. He places one card face down and TURN END.
It turns out that Kakeru is the lil’ bro of some famous soccer player, but he is raging cuz he doesn’t like teamplay and doesn’t want to follow his bro’s footsteps or w/e and chose dueling cuz it’s a solo game. Lolwut first you make yourself look like a soccer nerd and then say you wanna be forever alone and play cards? Yuuma is liek “card games are teamplay cuz your monsters are FRIENDS.” Astral also knows what soccer is.
Yuuma’s turn. Astral makes him summon Zubaba Buster and then use Monster Reborn to special summon Gogogo Golem in defense position from the graveyard. He then tells him to use Cross Attack, which when there’s 2 monsters with the same ATK on his field, he can directly attack the opponent with one of them but the other one can’t attack. He uses Zubaba Buster to attack and Kakeru receives the damage and his LP drop to 2200. When Zubaba Buster destroys a monster, it can destroy the opponent’s monster with the lowest ATK at the cost of losing 800 ATK. Captain Wing is destroyed, and Yuuma uses Runaway Explosion, which deals 500 damage to the opponent if their monster is destroyed by a card effect. Kakeru’s LP drop to 1700. Yuuma places on card face down and TURN END.
Kakeru has some flashback about how his teammates screwed up during a match once so he decided not to trust them and they lost. Then the other team mocked him. His teammates went to help him but then he’s liek “YOU’RE USELESS” and his big bro said he’s the useless one for neglecting TEAMWORK. Since then he gave up soccer and chose to play card games. I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel something for this guy, because his backstory is clearly “BAAAAW I SUCKED AT SOCCER SO I GAVE UP AND RAN TO CHILDREN’S CARD GAMES.” Yuuma is liek “lol no matter how I look at it you’re a soccer nerd, and btw your deck is your team you can’t escape TEAMWORK.”
Kakeru’s turn. He summons Defender Libero, whose level goes up by 1 if Dream Pitch is in effect. He then uses the spell card Team Play: when there are 2 monsters of the same type and level on his field, he can special summon a monster of that type from his graveyard. He summons Captain Wing, and monsters summoned with Team Play have their levels raised by 1. He overlays his 3 lvl 5 monsters to Exceed summon Fantasista Diechi. He uses it to attack Zubaba Buster, but Yuuma activates the trap card Half Unbreak to negate Zubaba Buster’s destruction and his Lp drop to 900. Kakeru removes 1 OLU from Fantasista Diechi to allow it to attack the opponent’s monster with the highest ATK after attacking. It attacks Gogogo golem, but it can negate destruction once since it’s in defense position. He removes another OLU to attack again and destroys it. He then removes the final OLU to attack Zubaba Buster, but Half Unbreak is sti in effect so it doesn’t get destroyed. Yuuma’s LP drop to 100. TURN END.
Yuuma’s turn. He summons Gagaga Girl (Gagaga Magician was jelly of Dark Magician for having a girl counterpart, it seems) and overlays it with Zubaba Buster to Exceed summon Muzumuzu Rhythm. He then uses the spell Giant Killing, which prevents the opponent frm activating any spell or trap cards this turn. He equips Giant Killing to Muzumuzu Rhythm, and since the opponent’s LP are higher than his, Kakeru’s monster’s ATK becomes halved. He then removes 1 OLU to activate Muzumuzu’s effect, which doubles its ATK when attacking an opponent’s monster. The 3000 ATK Muzumuzu attacks the 1300 ATK Fantasista Deichi and Kakeru’s LP drop to 0. Yuuma wins.
Kakeru is like “AFTER DUELING I FOUND OUT THAT I LIKE SOCCER!” and his bro tells him to go back to the team. Yuuma gets his heart piece. I’ve been wondering, but how do the heart pieces even fit together so perfectly?
That was a pretty disappointing episode. I thought the World Duel Carnival would begin with something more interesting, but instead we get soccer boy who probably won’t appear again and his monsters all looked pretty much the same.
