MuvLuv Extra + Unlimited afterthoughts

I’ve completed MuvLuv and now on my way to Alternative. If the “afterthoughts” in the title wasn’t clear enough, there will be spoilers.

Anyways, Extra was like a bad slapstick harem comedy with character designs that look like they belong in a fanservice mecha series. I could only bear to play Sumika’s and Meiya’s routes because they were mandatory for unlocking Unlimited. Their routes were basically the same until the end where Takeru is made to choose between the two because he is a dumbass and has no idea which one he likes. He is completely oblivious to their feelings like it’s a total joke, and didn’t even notice until he was eavesdropping and overheard them saying that they like him in the hotsprings. Sumika’s ending was basically Takeru choosing her and Meiya leaves, and then they’re like “Ok let’s insert mandatory H-scene.” In the Meiya ending, she goes back to her real house where she has to marry a rich dude because rich Japanese family, so Takeru gets the help of her maid and driver and they break into the Mitsurugi house while dodging missiles in a limo. Then he catches up with Meiya, convinces her that he’s not a retard, and H-scene happens. At the end he’s studying his ass off because he is now in rich Japanese family and is not allowed to suck.

Unlimited was better, of course, but it’s pretty obvious that it was just setting up for Alternative and produced more questions than it answered. It’s now a mecha plot where humanity is fighting against alien invasion and Takeru’s harem classmates are now cadets in the army and his teachers are higher ups. Sumika is gone (as in, she doesn’t exist) and Mikoto, the male best friend guy, is now a loli instead of a shota. As with anything that had a bad slice-of-life segment, I began to miss the slapstick harem comedy that is Extra not far into Unlimited. I started caring about the characters in Unlimited and Meiya became my favorite (dammnnnnn she’s not my usual type, but hnnnnnng she is cute when embarrassed. Not to mention that she’s an awesome swordsman.). Takeru starts off extremely useless but he gets better. He’s still completely clueless about love until the end where he chooses a girl. The conversation ends up something like this:

Takeru: “Everybody thought about me and bought me presents because WE’RE NOW FRIENDS!”

Girl: “What is wrong with you how do you not see that they’re all in love with you including me?”

Takeru: “Huh? Oh yeah, come to think of it, it now makes sense that everybody is in love with me. I love you, even though I had no idea about love until 3 seconds ago.”

Girl: “Are you sure?”

Takeru: “Yeah, let’s have sex in an extremely inapropriate place like the place where you train your mecha piloting skills!”

*facepalm* At least Takeru manned up and from what little of Alternative I’ve played so far, he’s kept his stats from Unlimited so it’s like playing a new game plus where he kept his stats and level from the previous playthrough and knows what will happen. The Unlimited endings only differ on what girl you choose, and whether you make her go on the shuttle while Takeru stays on Earth or they both stay on Earth and keep fighting. The true ends are the former.  I got depressed at the endings, and I’m pretty sure I’ll get even more depressed when I play Alternative. I’ve actually gotten attatched to the cast despite them looking like harem stereotype cardboard cut-outs in Extra.

Oh yeah, and pilot suits are ridiculous.
