Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal 8 – Full of situational cards…

Blehh busy week is busy.

Last episode left off with Fuuya summoning his No. 83 Galaxy Queen. Yuuma calls Kotori, and tells her to get Fuuya’s mother to go watch their duel because it will somehow solve his angst.

Yuuma’s turn. He summons Gagaga Magician, and then special summons Shadow Lizard (Kage Tokage, lvl 4) , which can be summoned when a level 4 monster is summoned (but cannot be normal summoned). He overlays them to Exceed summon Kibouou Hope. Galaxy Queen cannot be destroyed because it has Cursed Seal of Dead Max equipped. Also, Yuuma is strangely cooperative with Astral, who comments on it. Yuuma then acts all tsundere with the classic “I’m not doing it for you!!! It’s for Fuuya!” line, and says that Astral seems strangely concerned. It’s because Fuuya is lonely, he says. Astral apparently knows what it’s like to be lonely, despite not knowing many more things. Their goals are the same this time, so they cooperate. This is the only time when the opponent doesn’t comment on how Yuuma is “talking to air.”

Yuuma attacks Puman with Hope, but Fuuya activates the trap Wings of Unity (Kessoku no Tsubasa). When Star Robin is on the field, it negates the opponent’s attack and allows him to special summon Phoenix Beast Galeruda (Hoojuu Galeruda). Here, we’re shown that Star Robin, Puman and Galeruda can all talk. Yuuma can feel their passionately burning bond lol. Yuuma has no deep bonds of friendship despite being the main character? Fuuya uses Galeruda’s effect to draw a card. Astral tells Yuuma to put down Regretful Complaint, and he does. TURN END.

Fuuya’s turn. When Star Robin, Puman and Galeruda are all on his field, he can special summon Tetsukyoujin Ironhammer (Iron Giant Ironhammer). At this moment, Kotori and Tetsuo arrive with Fuuya’s mom. She’s like “WTF are you doing!?” but being the GOOD KID that Fuuya is, he responds with “who are you?” She says she’s his mom, but Fuuya is like “lol no my mom is Galaxy Queen.” Trololol the kid thinks his mother is a trading card. He also claims that he is not Fuuya, but Robin.

Yuuma tells her that the Robin who has been tying people up is her son, who became crushed under the pressure of his mother. She tells him to stop this, but Yuuma’s like “STFU and watch the duel, see how Fuuya sees his mom.” Fuuya removes one Overlay Unit from Galaxy Queen to activate her effect (deal piercing damage to defense position monsters). Then he activates Galeruda’s effect, which ups its ATK by 300 when it attacks. He then declares an attack on Kibouou Hope, but Yuuma removed one Overlay unit to negate the attack. Fuuya attacks with Star Robin, but Yuuma once again activates Hope’s effect and negates the attack. Fuuya activates Ironhammer’s effect, which allows a level 4 or lower monster to perform a direct attack. He uses it on Puman, letting it directly attack Yuuma. His LP drops to 800.

Astral is flashing again since Yuuma is losing, and tells him to activate the trap card he set earlier, Regretful Complaint. When he receives direct attack damage, he can take control of the opponent’s monster with the highest DEF until the end of your next turn. Its effect is negated and it cannot attack. Yuuma takes control of Ironhammer. Fuuya places on card face down and TURN END.

Yuuma’s turn. He uses the continuous spell, Attack Regulation. When the opponent’s field has 3 or more monsters, they cannot declare an attack. Astral can already see the pieces coming together, and tells Yuuma to win. Currently, Galaxy Queen has Dead Max equipped so she cannot be destroyed. Furthermore, her effect prevents Fuuya’s other monsters from being destroyed. Apparently, Astral can predict what’s going to happen next because he was watching Robin’s show lol. Anyways, he tells Yuuma to place the two remaining cards in his hand face down. TURN END.

Fuuya’s turn. Ironhammer returns to Fuuya’s field. Fuuya’s mother once again tells him to stop, and Fuuya gets a reaction. But then he just goes back to saying “STFU I’m ROBIN!!” He activates the trap card, Change! Jet Iron. When the Robin family is on his field, he can release them all to tribute/advance summon Different Dimension Jet Iron. Jet Iron’s ATK is equal to the ATK of all the tributed monsters added together. Thus, Jet Iron has 8000 ATK.

Astral tells Yuuma to activate a trap card, but Yuuma doesn’t know which one to activate lol. What does he do now? Eat his DUEL MEAL!

The rice ball apparently replenishes his thinking powers, and he activates Burning Fighting Spirit (Moeru Toushi), which doubles Kibouou Hope’s ATK to 5000. That is not enough to defeat Jet Iron, who is able to attack because Attack Regulation only works when there are 3 or more monsters on the opponent’s field. Astral makes Yuuma activate Secret Cyclone, the other card he put down. Secret Cyclone can be activated when control of a monster you control changes and that monster is released, and allows the user to destroy one of the opponent’s spell/trap cards. In other words, Yuuma was in control of Ironhammer, but Ironhammer went back to being under Fuuya’s control and was then released to summon Jet Iron, so Secret Cyclone works. In even simpler terms, this is an extremely situational card that you probably won’t see again. Yuuma destroys the Cursed Seal of Dead Max equipped on Galaxy Queen.

Fuuya attacks Kibouou Hope with Jet Iron. Yuuma’s like “ho shit we’re still screwed” but Astral reminds him that he still has one more trap card left. He activates Nijiken Sappo Vector Change (Different Dimension Murder Method Vector Change), which can be activated when the opponent’s monster attacks and there is another monster on the field that is in defense position. The attacking monster is changed to defense position, and the defense position monster is changed to attack position. Jet Iron is changed to defense positon (0 DEF) while Galaxy Queen is changed to attack position (500 ATK). Fuuya still doesn’t give up, and places 1 card face down and TURN END.

Yuuma’s turn. Astral tells him that the face down card Fuuya just placed will definitely be a counter. Yuuma attacks Galaxy Queen with Kibouou Hope, but Fuuya activates the trap card, Star Robin is Forever! This card can be activated when the opponent declares an attack; it special summons Star Robin from the graveyard with 0 ATK and the attacking target is switched to Star Robin. In other words, Yuuma wins anyways. lololol I, like Astral, through Fuuya was gonna have some epic counter, but at the end the trap card doesn’t do anything. It turns out that Fuuya did that to “protect his mother” or something. Bleh, he would have lost either way. What happened to “sacrificing yourself doesn’t solve anything!!” that I learned from anime and games? Anyways, Astral absorbs No. 83 Galaxy Queen (it turns out that as long as Yuuma wins, Astral absorbs it. It doesn’t matter if the Numbers is defeated or not), and apparently remembers something important. Fuuya and his mother make up, and Yuuma has a flashback of him and his mother when he was little.

As Yuuma, Kotori, and Tetsuo are walking home, we see SHARK RIDING ON A MOTORCYCLE.

CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!!!

This just made him several times more awesome, and is now Astral’s rival for my favorite character on the show. MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY RIDING MOTORCYCLE!!! Lol who needs Duel Boards?? Also, Kotori asks Yuuma why he didn’t tell her that Fuuya was Robin, and he responds with something akin to “because it’ll ruin your dreams.” Kotori blushes and tells him that he is rather considerate, but Yuuma is all tsundere and says “I’M NOT YOU IDIOT!!!” Kotori tells him he has no delicacy, and guess what Yuuma says? “What’s a DELIVERY??” ZOMG It’s a 5D’s reference!! Crow was talking to his orphans and tells one of the boys that girls have something called DELIVERY only to be corrected because it was supposed to be DELICACY. We got an obvious 5D’s reference with Shark on a motorcycle, and a subtle one with the mxing up of delivery and delicacy!! Within a minute of eachother!! I’m still sad that 5D’s ended, but 5D’s references FTW! Also, I’ve been noticing that Zexal’s soundtrack is actually really good. I like it.

At the end, Astral and Yuuma are watching the ending of Robin’s show, where Robin hugs the villain who turns back into his mother. Yuuma is bawling, and Astral reveals that he remembered when he was born. He was born (not from a mother) and given the mission of saving the world’s future.
