Anyways, I beat SC! As with any RPG final boss, there’s 3 consecutive fights. SC, however, lets you save in between the fights. Weissman was OK, the next form was alright but kinda intimidating with what I thought was massive HP, and the final form…Oh god, I had a headache after beating it. That thing was lvl 99 with 99999 HP, could summon helpers, and when its HP gets low, it makes your allies vanish one by one. No, not KO. Vanish. They freaking disappear off of the battlefield, and don’t return for the rest of the battle. If you don’t kill the final boss quickly enough, it’ll turn into a solo fight. I brought Olivier and Schera with me because I felt like ending the game with the first full party I had in FC. End off with who you started with felt fitting. Plus, I played defensive and used my casters to buff up everyone in ATK, DEF, ADF and SPD. I also cast Earth Wall constantly. I don’t rush in full attack like I used to do in RPGs since that’s not gonna work on a boss with 99999 HP.
The ending was satisfying, but left open a whole lot. It ends off Estelle and Joshua’s journey rather nicely, but left so much room for a sequel. That’s where TC, Zero no Kiseki and eventually Ao no Kiseki come in! I’ve got a loooong way to go before finishing this series. By the time I finish TC it’ll be summer break, so I might take a break between TC and Zero no Kiseki to play my PS2 backlog.
I like the battle system for boss fights since it’s strategic and fun, but the random battles are just so slow most of the time. I still don’t like the normal random battle music, but the final dungeon battle music is great. The battle against Loewe felt so damn epic even though it’s a cutscene battle (and it took me a while to realize that the battle before that was optional and you can still progress after losing). I d’awwwwwwed at the scene following that. Schera and Lucciola was also pretty d’aww. People who are like siblings reuniting in general is very d’awww. Too bad what happens afterward is…
I also recently found out that Renne’s giant mecha’s name is romanized as Pater Mater. Guess what I’ve been calling it? FATHER MOTHER. It took me quite a while to realize its name is not Father Mother, but close enough. Pater Mater is Father Mother in Latin anyways.
Since the battle system is the same and most of the music and graphics are reused, I’ll just review the entire Sora no Kiseki series instead of doing it game-by-game.
I beat FC at around 45 hours, and SC in 72. SC is now the game where I’ve spent the longest on the storyline in the first playthrough. I spent 65 hours for the Persona 3 Portable storyline (for 1 MC) and 70 hours for Persona 4 story. Once SC comes out in English, I’m gonna actually take my time, talk to all NPCs, and do every single quest. I did most of the quests, but only reached B rank. I suppose there’s a few more hidden quests at Chapter 8, but that chapter felt like a complete drag in comparison to Chapter 7 and Final. I just wanted to move on.
