Seriously though, it’s been 7 episodes and Madoka isn’t a magical girl yet. Are they tolling us?
But this is possibly the most entertaining magical girl anime I’ve watched. I haven’t gotten into a mahou shoujo for a long time now. It seems like modern ones (the truely “shoujo” ones) are lacking in soul on way or the other. I’ve tried watching at least four Pretty Cure anime but it failed to hold my interest for more than 1 or 2 episodes. Shugo Chara didn’t do the magic for me, and I actually watched all of Mermaid Melody but I was just bored and had free time back time. I read through Kamichama Karin, but I dropped it during Chu (sequel). I wonder why? It’s not the lack of action that bothers me, since I enjoyed Hime-chan no Ribbon a lot (for the record, that show is about a girl who can tranform into another person for an hour, and contains no evil enemies or fighting) and Creamy Mami (about an elementary school girl who can tranform into an older self and becomes an idol). If anything, modern magical girl anime have even more action.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica made me interested in another magical girl anime again, but not for the reason I had hoped…And I’m pretty sure the target audience for this isn’t little girls OTL
