Well, summative week has gone by and I’ve only one exam so I’ve got enough time to watch this week’s episode on time. First thing, I’d like to say that thank GOD the WRGP is over. It’s not like I hate tournament arcs because I actually liked the Fortune Cup arcs, but I hate the way the WRGP is set up because it just leaves all screen time to Yusei. The duels are dull and full of asspulls. After they got rid of the WRGP, the recent episodes feel much more alive and higher quality. They’re explaining the plot, and the characters are full of emotion. I’m free this week so I decided to make a super detailed summary.
Now, then. The actual episode. Yusei and Bruno/Antinomy’s duel begins with Bruno taking the first turn. The sun-like celestial object they’re riding around will burst out a firey stream of stuff kinda like solar flares. Of course, that is only a minor hinder in the card game, so I suppose this thing isn’t really the sun. Bruno summons Tech Genus Catapult Dragon (?), whose effect allows him to summon a level 3 or lower Tuner monster once per turn. He then summons Tech Genus Jet Falcon which looks like he just jacked one of Crow’s monsters and made it wear some blue metal stuff on its back. He tunes them to Synchro summon the level 5 Tech Genus Hyper Librarian (?). I swear Bruno has the coolest Synchro chant/sequence. When Jet Falcon is used for a Synchro summon, the opponent takes 500 damage so Yusei’s LP are knocked to 3500. Some fire bursts out from the “sun” again, dealing real damage? Bruno sets one card face down and ends his turn.
Yusei’s still hesitating, but then Bruno’s like “If you cannot defeat me then you can’t save j00r friends!!!” Then he BUMP’S YUSEI’S MOTORCYCLE WITH HIS OWN and knocks him dangerously close to the edge of the path they’re riding on. Geez Bruno, what about the rules…oh right, this isn’t the WRGP anymore. Anyways, when Yusei starts his turn, the entire background gets engulfed in flames and the only place not covered by flames is the path. Talk about getting fired up. Yusei summons Junk Synchron. When there’s a monster with “Junk” in its name on the field, he can summon Junk Servant from his hand. He then uses them to Synchro summon Junk Berserker. Bruno draws one card due to Hyper Librarian’s effect. Yusei then activates Junk Berserker’s effect, where he if there’s a Junk monster in his graveyard he can reduce an opponent’s monster’s attack points by the Junk monster’s attack points. He reduces Hyper Librarian’s ATK to 900 and attacks it, but Bruno activates Battle Stand Sonic (?not sure name) which negates the attack and allows for special summoning a level 4 or lower Tuner monster from his hand. Bruno summons Tech Genus Cyber Magician. Yusei sets one face down card and ends his turn.
In his turn, Bruno summons Tech Genus Rush Rhino and tunes it to Cyber Magician to Synchro summon Tech Genus Wonder Magician. He draws one card due to Hyper Librarian’s effect then proceeds to drive through them bursting flares without any reaction at all. He then tunes Hyper Librarian to Cyber Magician to Accel Synchro Tech Genus Blade Gunner, which cuts through the flames! Yusei’s like “But why did you teach me Accel Synchro??” but Bruno says that he needed to do it in order for him to win the WRGP and summon the Arc Cradle after the battle with Aporia. Then he says that Yusei’s duty is now over and attacks Junk Berserker with Blade Gunner. Yusei’s LP drop to 2700. Bruno summons Tech Genus Metal Skelter (? lol this is definitely the wrong name), which can be summoned from his hand when a Synchro monster is destroyed. He directly attacks Yusei, dropping his LP to 1600. Bruno sets one card and end his turn. I swear that’s the most over used phrase in 5D’s ever: kaado o ichimai fusete TAAN ENDO! (I set one card and end my turn).
Yusei asks who is ZONE, and Bruno goes into a flashback (or flashforward since the guy’s from the future) about his meeting with ZONE which is done entirely using STILL IMAGES until ZONE shows up. And “ZONE” is apparently a guy who rides Yusei’s D-Wheel, wears his clothes and his helmet, and his bike can shoot laser cannons strong enough to destroy a mecha. I really want a motorcycle like that now. Then Bruno gives his friendship speech about him and ZONE who met in times of despair, and Yusei finally stops calling him Bruno and calls him Antinomy instead.
Yusei activates the Speed Spell “Angel’s Baton” which allows him to draw 2 cards when he has 2 or more speed counters and send one card to the graveyard. He summons a…erm, something Synchron (couldn’t catch the name) which looks like a metal ball with an eye in the middle. He releases it to summon Salvage Warrior. When this card is successfully Advance summoned, he can Special summon one Tuner monster from his hand or graveyard. Yusei summons Junk Synchron and Tunes them to Synchro summon Stardust Dragon. It flys epically through the flames. He then summons Stardust Xiaolong from his grave, and activates his trap card Angel Lift which allows him to Special summon a level 2 or lower monster from his graveyard. He summons the eyeball synchron thing he released earlier this turn and tunes it to Stardust Xiaolong to summon Formula Synchron. Formula Synchron allows him to draw 1 card, and then he tunes it with SD to Accel Synchro Shooting Star Dragon in all its CGI glory flying through the also CGI flames. He gives a speech about how he’s gonna surpass his limits to protect his friends and attacks Metal Skelter with SSD, dropping Bruno’s LP to 1800. カードをいちまいふせてターネンド！
Then Bruno’s like “NO THIS IS A SHOUNEN ANIME SO THERE’S GONNA BE ANOTHER TYPE OF SUMMONING HIGHER LEVEL THAN ACCEL SYNCHRO THAT NO ONE HAS EVER MENTIONED BEFORE AND IMA DO IT NAO!!!” He special summons Tech Genus Gear Zombie by lowering Blade Gunner’s ATK by 1000 and then summons TG Drill Fish. He tunes Gear Zombie and Drill Fish to summon Tech Genus dragonfly thingy (couldn’t quite catch name aside from “dragon fly”). Its effect returns Blade Gunner to the Extra deck to summon 2 Synchros from his graveyard. He revives Wonder Magician and Hyper Librarian and then…TOP CLEAR MIND!!! He tunes dragonfly thingy with Wonder Magician and Hyper Librarian to DELTA ACCEL SYNCHRO
Old Shounen Anime Generic Mecha TG Halbard Cannon. It’s at Lv 12 with 4000 attack, and him summoning it destroyed the “sun”…
Lol after seeing what the writers are doing with 5D’s, I kinda want to see what they will be high on when writing Zexal. I can hardly remember the fact that Duel Monsters was originally an ordinary card game played by kids at an ordinary school and tourneys. This episode had nice animation aside from the flashback which used STILLS in this day and age. The characters weren’t off-model or anything, and they make relatively normal expressions unlike the lol that was Aporia’s face last episode.
