PSP Ports FTW~

I’ve been looking at the Play-Asia PSP page, and it seems like a lot of PC/console ren’ai games are getting ported to PSP! Since PSP is region-free, this is good news to me. Now my only problem is the price of importing…

First up is Little Busters! for PSP. I’ve been wanting to play this game since completing Clannad, but I don’t do well when it comes to PC games in Japanese. I get too easily distracted lol. If it’s on handheld then no problem, since I can bring it on the bus or somewhere else. Since PSP is going strong in China, hopefully they’ll take up a translation project for Little Busters! PSP. If they don’t, I’ll just have to suck it up and go into SUPER MODE (the one I used to go through Hiiro no Kakera) and decipher the Japanese. It seems my level of Japanese isn’t too bad. I’m breezing through level 2, got a decent knowledge of Japanese grammar/sentence structure and kanji, and I just got praised by my teacher for pronounciation. Haha, gaming has helped more than class.

Next is Shin Koihime Musou. For those living under a rock, Shin Koihime Musou is an eroge featuring characters from the Three Kingdoms (San Guo, Sangoku) era in ancient China, where there were 3 warring factions. In the original Koihime Musou, you are a modern-day student who ends up in an alternate universe where the Sangoku characters are all girls. You end up meeting Kan’u, and side with the Shu faction. Shin Koihime Musou is different from the original in the sense that you can choose which faction to join at the beginning. That means the 3 paths are seperate. The game has a huge cast, which probably can’t be fit onto one UMD. Thus, for the PSP version, they split it into 3 and are releasing them through a period of 3 months. The Shu, Wei, and Wu paths. Aiya, releasing one game for the price of 3…

Then there’s Tears to Tiara, an SRPG/ren’ai game. It was originally an eroge released for the PC with a real time battle system and unattractive character design, but they re-did the character designs and artwork for the PS3 release and ditched the system for turn-based. I’m pretty interested in this game since RPG + bishoujo game = win. I’m a fan of RPGs with a social system like Luminous Arc 2/3 and Persona 3/4, so I’ll be keeping my eye on Tears to Tiara. Since this game is also an SRPG, maybe it’ll have a better chance of being localized?…I shouldn’t get my hopes up too high, should I?

On the otome game side, all 4 Hiiro no Kakera have PSP ports. Other games ported to PSP include Real Rode (otome/RPG hybrid, available at decent price for an import), the Starry Sky games (pretty cheap, actually) which are coming out slowly one by one, Hakuouki, and the 3 Kin’iro no Corda games (another otome game with lots of gameplay).

The PSP is sure becoming popular with ren’ai games. I remember when DS used to be otome game paradise due to no region lock and the TMGS series. Ah…now only if the Canadian dollar rises! Or they come out with bargain re-releases. Strong yen is making my online shopping rather painful.
