Being an iPod Touch owner since 2007 (I’ve got a 1st gen), I’m still dazed at how the hell I managed to miss visual novels released on the App Store by Mtrix co. They’ve got Gift, Kira*Kira, and Memories Off 1 and 2 in Japanese, and Gift and KiraKira in English. There’s also Gift and Memories off 1 in Chinese. Unfortunately, they require a ‘microphone.’ In other words, these visual novels are only compatible with Gen 2 and beyond since Gen 1 iPod Touch doesn’t have a microphone/speaker. Lesson learnt: Don’t jump in on a product’s first release unless you have enough money to afford future upgrades. In other words, yeah, I’m butthurt about Gen 1 itouch not having speakers. I was fine with plugging in headphones, but to think there are games that actually can only run on Gen 2 or beyond…
I’m hoping for more visual novel releases by other companies, hopefully without the Gen 2 requirement. I’m reeeeeaaaaally tempted by the iPhone prices, especially when compared to the PC versions. Some people feel like apps shouldn’t be worth 10+ dollars, but when it’s a long visual novel where the digital download version on PC costs 40 bucks, yeah I’d take iPhone version any day. Portability is a plus. I’m not usually fond of long games on iPhone due to not having buttons, but visual novels are actually tolerable with a touch screen.

Man, I should re-jailbreak my iPod and see what they have to offer. Bishoujo games = DO WANT. I remember coming across instructions on porting Clannad and Air to the iPod Touch way back in 2008, but I didn’t understand shit back then and my Japanese was also total crap. Maybe I should try that again now that I’m a little less stupid.
